The Seed of Eternity

Here is another illustration Jesus used: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field.   It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches."  Mat 13:31-32  NLT

When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. [Jesus]  Jhn 14:20 NLT

This morning on the Today show, I saw YouTube videos of kids in schools violently attacking each other. When we look at our media, when we look at our families, and when we look in the mirror, we know that something in us is wrong.  When we look at Jesus—His life and teachings—we see the solution to that wrongness.  This vision—this understanding of Him as the Way, Truth and Life—is a great blessing!  It becomes in us a seed.  Jesus, in His parables, used many examples of seeds; good seeds, bad seeds, seeds that perished before bearing fruit, and seeds that produced bountiful, good fruit, which produced more seeds. Small seeds that grew into giant trees where birds could nest.  Jesus Himself abides in us if we receive Him. He is the seed that becomes the greatest tree in the garden of our personality. The birds of grace, goodness, peace, joy, kindness, gratitude, self-control, hope, sincere love, contentment, good will, strength, and abundant, victorious life come and nest in that tree, and sing their melodious songs.  That tree produces seeds, like the giant Live oak in my back yard—thousands of seeds, that have the potential of producing more beautiful trees.  That seed—Jesus in us—is of the same essence as the Creator of this universe; and mysteriously co-exists with Him in heaven [Hebr. 10:12].  Jesus is in us [see above verse]; and He is in heaven.  As we nourish Christ’s Spirit in us—this wonderful seed—it grows and grows; and the corrosive, toxic aspects of our personality [those other seeds] begin to fade away under its shade. Over time, we become more and more what we were created to become:  Joyful, peaceful servants of God and man. We become agents of healing and light. We become a part of the solution to the world’s problems, instead of, as we were before, contributors to the problems of the world. We see, more and more clearly, that receiving the seed of Christ in us was the most important thing we have ever done. It was the beginning of the process of our sanctification—our metamorphosis  from earthly caterpillars into heavenly butterflies.  Jesus in us is our secure connection to heaven. He has promised to never forsake us, and the Bible teaches that He will complete the wonderful work He has begun in us [Eph. 3:19, 4:13].  Through Him and in Him we make the God connection, and we are delivered from the corruptive forces that are so evident in our world. In Him we are now identified with the best that exists in the universe of human experience—the Love of Christ Himself, which is the Love of God.  This Love is pure. There is nothing that can be honestly faulted about it. It is described in 1Cor.:13, and exemplified by the life of Jesus. This is the Seed of eternity that is growing in us, in Whom we abide, live, move and breathe.  We are so thankful that Christ is in us, and we are in Him!

Holy Father, by Your grace, may we nourish the Holy Seed You have given to abide within us on earth—Your Holy Spirit in us through Christ Jesus our Lord. May the bountiful fruit of Your Spirit be born new and fresh within us today. May we have a growing awareness of Your eternal presence and our heavenly destination.
